La iglesia en Guatemala (1955-1980): esperanzas, frustraciones y crisis.

Resumen: Cuando Castillo Armas tomó el poder en Guatemala, la Iglesia aprovechó la nueva coyuntura política
para superar las proscripciones legales que había padecido desde la revolución liberal de 1871.
Multiplica, así, el número de sus sacerdotes, instituciones y actividades. Al mismo tiempo la nueva
situación la enfrenta a nuevos problemas y la sume en una situación de crisis. Los orígenes de esa
son el tema del presente artículo.
When Castillo Armas captured the power in Guatemala, the Catholic Church took advantage of the new political situation
to overcome the legal proscriptions that it had endured from the Liberal Revolution of 1871. The Church multiplied the
number of her priests, institutions and activities. At the same time, the new situation faced her to new problems and
added her in a situation of crisis. The origins of this one are the topic of the present article.
