| spa |
dc.description.abstract | To get a close look at life, behavior and thinking of the women who helped to found the
new Spain in the 16th century is not an easy task. One of the most effective instruments
to achieve this is to study the inquisitorial trials, since they are a reliable and direct
source of female reality of the time. The cases against nuns were not frequent, but all
of them reflect a mature theological and philosophical thought. Through the study of
the inquisitorial case against Sor Francisca de la Anunciación–Mexico City, 1564—we
are able to understand an important period of the social history of New Spain, to deepen
into the way of thinking of a woman of the time, whose perspective about the salvation of
a nun who hanged herself is a motive for the trial, and to propose a hypothesis about the
identity of the woman who took her life and that in doing so, changed the life of another. | eng |
