Abstract
This study presents a transversal and ex-post-facto research on the relationship between emotional intelligence and psychological wellbeing in adolescents. In addition, it was studied in what extent the first predicts the second trough a regression analysis. All the analysis were studied in each gender. The sample consisted of 486 students aged 13-16 (178 women and 308 men) of two private schools in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador. In order to measure emotional intelligence, the Spanish adaptation and the abbreviated version of the Trait Meta Mood Scale (TMMS-24; Fernández-Berrocal, Extremera & Ramos, 2004) was used, and psychological wellbeing was studied trough the Psychological Well- Being scale for Adolescents (BIEPS-J, Casullo, 2002). The results show higher levels in men compared to women, in the two studied variables. In addition, high correlations were 3 observed between the variables in both genders. Finally, regression analysis showed that emotional intelligence had a predictive capacity on psychological wellbeing in both men and women.
