The problem of time and its relation with eternity has stirred the minds and hearts of thoughtful men throughout history, and different answers have been given in the attempt to solve it. Saint Augustine approaches this question from a multiple perspective. From an essentialist perspective he feels time as tragedy as it is impossible to find rest or stability in it. From an anthropological approach he realizes that human beings are the only ones able to perceive time, to assume it and to give it significance. From a theological point of view he considers time as the means through which God wants to fulfil his salvation design.
