Catalan nationalism, understood in its early stages as a movement opposed to the centralist model of the liberal State, began to reassert itself as a political alternative in 1906, following the birth of the Solidaridad Catalana coalition in response to the Ley de Jurisdicciones passed under the government of Segismundo Moret. From then on, and until the first Statute of Autonomy was approved in 1932, its complex evolution always had as a privileged witness Niceto Alcalá-Zamora, a figure who began his political career in 1906 as a mere deputy in the Alfonsine Cortes and would end up being elected President of the Republic in 1931. The aim of this research is to shed light on Niceto Alcalá-Zamora's political thought on the Catalan question, with a working methodology centered on the study of various primary sources such as his stolen memoirs and diaries, press articles, testimonies from his contemporaries, and speeches recorded in the Diario de Sesiones del Congreso de los Diputados.
