Valora positivamente el alcance del llamado principio de los «magisterios no superponibles» y su postura crítica ante la pretendida irreconciliabilidad entre ciencia y fe, pese a la ausencia en el pensamiento de Gould de la filosofía como instancia mediadora entre ciencia y fe. En relación con estas cuestiones, el artículo muestra algunas ideas tomadas de la historia de la ciencia, en particular el concordismo de Thomas Burnet, la nueva teología natural emergente llamada físico-teología, y la aguda crítica de Kant a esta nueva teología, tan característica de la cultura científica y cristiana de la Inglaterra del siglo XVII. It evaluates positively the scope of the so-called “non-superposable magistries” principle and his critical stance on the alleged irreconcilability between science and faith, despite the absence in Gould’s thought of philosophy as a mediating instance between science and faith.
