All rights reserved.Introduction: Julián Zugazagoitia was one of the Second Spanish Republic intellectual politicians. His outstanding intellectual profile had a particular effect on the party as well as on the working class education, information and integration in his time sociopolitical structure. Methodology: Different sources have been used. Bibliographical ones, to define and contextualize the concept of intellectual, to approach Zugazagoitia’s intellectual production and to know about the latest publications on him. His personal document collection and the PSOE one have been checked. “El Socialista” (1931-1933) has been examined too. Results: Information about Zugazagoitia is very scarce, though it’s increasing after recent interesting publications. This article sustains Zugazagoitia’s intellectual condition. Discussion: To argue this, the concept of intellectual in the republican period and inside the socialist party is defined, some intellectual socialist leading figures are analysed, focusing on Zugazagoitia, studying his intellectual contribution to formatively spread the socialist message among workers, his ideological alignment and his specific political actions.
