Over time, and particularly with the introduction of new methodological approaches, its field of inquiry has at times undergone a significant narrowing. The present study seeks to undertake a reflection, enlightened by Economic Theory, on the very essence of the discipline, with the aim of demonstrating how a conception of the nature of the economic agent—one that is coherent with the vision proposed by the Social Doctrine of the Church—allows its object of study to be understood in a more comprehensive and integrated manner, thereby enhancing its explanatory scope. This reflection endeavors to bring to light the anthropological, epistemological, and ethical implications that arise from such an understanding of the discipline. A precise definition of both the formal and material object of Economic History is indispensable for determining the scientific method best suited to the attainment of its proper end. Ultimately, the purpose is to employ a scientific method that does not impose restrictive limits on the possibilities of knowledge inherent in Economic History itself.18876494enghttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/Cientific methodEconomic HistoryEonomic TheoryHistoria EconómicaMétodo científicoTeoría EconómicaReligious studiesYesThe Economic Agentas Protagonistof Economic History : Implications for the Nature and Method of the DisciplineEl agente económico protagonista de la Historia Económica.
