Abstract

It is known that Francis Bacon (1561-1626) read the work of José de Acosta (1540-1600) and benefited from the information contained therein. Beyond this fact, the objective of this article is to outline an approach to the thought of both authors, their objectives, their methodological proposals, and their religious perspectives. This approach allows us to conclude that we are faced with two practically antagonistic discourses and to propose—until now as a hypothesis— the possibility that an alternative model of modernity is manifested in Acosta.
