Abstract

The complex economic situation that Castile went through in the seventeenth century led to the appearance of innumerable arbitrations of an economic nature. The authors, aware of the current crisis, proposed various remedies to resolve it. In this abundant literature we find writings of various kinds. Analyzing the theoretical foundations of these proposals allows us to identify the influence that scholastic thought had on this literature and helps to establish its quality. Those authors who, although without explicitly citing their sources, based their arguments on scholastic ideas, were able to understand the nature of economic phenomena and were able to propose adequate remedies, consistent with the prevailing economic theory.
