Item type: Item , Advanced practice nursing competence profile in emergencies : insights from Spain(2025-06) Jimenez-Garcia, Angela; Cuevas-Budhart, Miguel Angel; Perez-Romero, Genoveva; Barneto-Valero, Cristina; Montoya-Juárez, Rafael; Gómez del Pulgar, Mercedes; Facultad de Ciencias de la SaludIntroduction: The development of Advanced Practice Nursing roles in Emergency Care is crucial due to the growing demand for healthcare services, driven by the rising prevalence of chronic diseases, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on healthcare systems, and the need for cost-effective solutions amid workforce shortages in various healthcare professions. Aim: To establish a well-defined competency profile for Advanced Practice Nursing in emergency care using the Delphi method, ensuring that the identified competencies are relevant, clearly articulated, and systematically structured for effective practice in urgent and emergency settings. Methodology: A mixed-methods design, structured in three phases, was implemented to develop a competency profile for Advanced Practice Nursing in emergency care in Spain. The first phase utilized qualitative focus groups with experienced nurses to identify foundational competencies. The second phase applied a modified Delphi method with a panel of 42 experts to refine and validate these competencies through iterative feedback and consensus-building. Finally, a quantitative approach was employed, incorporating statistical techniques such as the Content Validity Index and Cronbach's alpha to ensure the clarity, coherence, and relevance of the competency items. Results: The study identified eight competency units, comprising 17 competency criteria and 99 descriptors, of which 25 correspond to various competency units. Conclusions: The validated competency units, criteria, and descriptors serve as a cornerstone for establishing a comprehensive Advanced Practice Nursing in Emergency Care framework. This framework plays a crucial role in standardizing practices, improving care quality, and ensuring that nurses are well-equipped to address the complex challenges of emergency settings.Item type: Item , Effectiveness of immersive virtual reality and exercise on clinical, clinimetric and biomarker variables in rotator cuff-related shoulder pain patients : A study protocol for a multicentre randomized clinical trial (IVR- RCRSP-Rehab)(2026-01-27) Roldán-Ruiz, Alberto; Villagrán-Soto, Claudio; Bertotti, Gabriele; López-Moreno, Miguel; Sánchez-Jorge, Sandra; Fernández-Ruiz, Vicente; Rodríguez-Aragón, Manuel; Guerra-Armas, Javier; Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud; Universidad Francisco de VitoriaIntroduction Shoulder pain is a common reason for physiotherapy consultations, and the high prevalence of rotator cuff-related shoulder pain (RCRSP) calls for novel approaches. Immersive virtual reality (IVR) offers an innovative treatment option to reduce pain, improve mobility and function in RCRSP. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of combining IVR with standard treatment versus standard treatment alone on clinical variables, clinimetric measures, and biomarkers in individuals with chronic RCRSP. Materials and methods A single-blind, multicentre randomized clinical trial will be conducted. Participants will be randomly assigned to two groups: the control group will undergo a three-month exercise program, while the intervention group will receive an IVR program for the first month, followed by the same exercise program for the control group during second and third months. Clinical, clinimetric, and biomarker variables will be assessed at baseline and at follow-ups at 1, 2, and 3 months. Results This study will shed light on the effectiveness of the combined program of immersive virtual reality with exercise and exercise program alone in chronic RCRSP patients. Measurements of clinical, clinimetric, and biomarker variables will help to explore how these interventions may influence this clinical population within a comprehensive perspective. Conclusions This study protocol outlines a novel approach to managing chronic rotator cuff-related shoulder pain by integrating IVR with exercise-based physiotherapy. The results will provide valuable insights into the additive effects of IVR on variables such as pain, function, psychosocial factors and biological markers, potentially informing future rehabilitation strategies and enhancing patient outcomes in musculoskeletal care.Item type: Item , Effectiveness of non-pharmacological methods in reducing pain in pediatric patients and the role of nursing. Systematic review(2026) Pérez-Pozuelo, Juan Manuel; Hernández Iglesias, Sonsoles; Pereira-Afonso, Mónica Raquel; Checa-Peñalver, Abel; García-Valdivieso, Inmaculada; López-González, Ángel; Gómez-Cantarino, Sagrario; Facultad de Ciencias de la SaludIntroduction: The prevalence of pediatric pain has increased and is a leading cause of hospital attendance. Non-pharmacological treatments for pain relief in pediatrics are experiencing a boom. Methodology: Systematic review, following the quality guidelines of the PRISMA 2020 declaration. Previously determined inclusion and exclusion criteria were followed for the selection of studies. Results: The use of the vibrating and cold bee combined with a distractor is the most useful method, with virtual reality being the ideal distractor for the palliation of pediatric pain. The role of the nurse is essential to detect pain, choose the analgesia method and administer it. Discussion: The non-pharmacological techniques proposed and studied according to the selection of articles are useful in the reduction of pediatric pain according to the scales used in each study. Lack of management guidelines makes it a challenge for clinicians. Objective: To add our experience to increase evidence about PRP. Methods: We performed a retrospective, descriptive and multicentric study of 65 patients with PRP, being the largest European case series of patients with PRP. Results: PRP was more frequent in male patients with an average age of 51 years, but erythrodermic forms presented in older patients (average age 61 years). Six (75%) paediatric patients and ten (60%) non-erythrodermic adults controlled their disease with topical corticosteroids. On the contrary, 26 (68%) erythrodermic patients required biologic therapy as last and effective therapy line requiring an average of 6.5 months to achieve complete response. Conclusion: Our study showed a statistical difference in terms of outcome and response to treatment between children or patients with limited disease and patients who develop erythroderma.Item type: Item , Reliability of the Mental Health Nurse Competency Assessment Tool (ECOEnfSM) : a pilot study(2024-07-01) Sanz-Calvo, Javier; Rivera-Vicente, Luis Javier; García-Carrión, María del Carmen; Gómez del Pulgar García-Madrid, Mercedes; Facultad de Ciencias de la SaludItem type: Item , Placebo Effect of Caffeine on Physiological Parameters and Physical Performance(2024-05-07) Ortiz-Sánchez, David; Bravo-Sánchez, Alfredo; Ramírez-delaCruz, María; Abián, Pablo; Abián-Vicén, Javier; Facultad de Ciencias de la SaludItem type: Item , A Secondary Analysis of Gender Respiratory Features for Ultrasonography Bilateral Diaphragm Thickness, Respiratory Pressures, and Pulmonary Function in Low Back Pain(2024-06) Molina-Hernández, Nerea; Rodríguez-Sanz, David; Chicharro, José López; Becerro-de-Bengoa-Vallejo, Ricardo; Losa-Iglesias, Marta Elena; Vicente-Campos, Davinia; Marugán-Rubio, Daniel; Gutiérrez-Torre, Samuel Eloy; Calvo-Lobo, César; Facultad de Ciencias de la SaludItem type: Item , Effect of Physical Exercise Programs Based on Mobile Health and Ecological Momentary Assessment on the Physical and Mental Health, Cognitive Functions, and Social Environment of Adults in Developing Countries : A Systematic Review(2024-04) Flores Aniotz, Alejandro; Reyes-Molina, Daniel; Cigarroa, Igor; García-Merino, Sonia; Rubio Alonso, Margarita; Pérez Ruiz, Margarita; Zapata-Lamana, Rafael; Facultad de Ciencias de la SaludItem type: Item , Comparing Video Analysis to Computerized Detection of Limb Position for the Diagnosis of Movement Control during Back Squat Exercise with Overload(2024-03) Peres, André B.; Sancassani, Andrei; Castro, Eliane A.; Almeida, Tiago A.F.; Massini, Danilo A.; Macedo, Anderson G.; Espada, Mário C.; Hernández-Beltrán, Víctor; Gamonales, José M.; Pessôa Filho, Dalton M.; Facultad de Ciencias de la SaludItem type: Item , The COVID-19 Pandemic and Its Role on the Lifestyle of University Students According to Gender(2025-02-27) Sánchez-Brígido, Fátima; Aguiló Pons, Antoni; Fernández Ruiz, Vicente Luis; Monge Martín, Diana; Samper Rivas, Mónica; Gallego Gil, Ana; Moreno Heredero, Berta; Iglesias López, María Teresa; Pareja Bezares, Antonio; Muntaner-Mas, Adriá; Soto Sanz, Victoria; Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud; Facultad de Medicina; Universidad Francisco de VitoriaCon la promulgación de la pandemia por el virus SARS-CoV-2, todas las personas alrededor del mundo vieron interrumpidas sus rutinas y hábitos de forma abrupta.
